I’ve been chipping away at my Stress Less Holiday Training Plan for a whole month already. Time truly flies.
Much like in a running plan, I feel like I’ve built a decent base by getting into a more productive routine and dealing with things I’d typically procrastinate and be caught scrambling with in the 11th hour.
When I last wrote, I got an early (for me) start on holiday shopping, and was crowing about how I’d decluttered my kitchen utensil drawers, rotated seasonal clothing and sent off a few boxes to Goodwill and a local coat drive.
My next set of goals were as follows:
Attack kitchen junk drawers check. I’m proud to say I’ve dejunkified three drawers. Are you amazed? You should be.
Organize recipes Fail
Order holiday cards Check! In fact they’ve been sitting here for 2 weeks because it’s too early to send them! This is a first for me, the queen of paying $87 for overnight express delivery.
Plan Thanksgiving menu Check. I’ve even started the food build. You know, like carb loading for a marathon only food loading for Thanksgiving. All of my nonperishables are in the house!
Stay on top of appts., RSVPs, hostess gifts, etc. Check. After the erased iPhone calendar debacle, I created a backup calendar on stone tablet and keep it in front of me at all times…you know, just in case.
Plan and shop for dinners for the week: Fail Although I’m not running to the store as much as I was, I’m still seat of the pants in this regard. No eating out (except in NYC) or take out though.
Find something to wear for the Caveman’s holiday party on 12/3. Um fail. I’ve been rotating between two outfits the past 4 years. Perhaps it’s time to change it up? Ugh!
Find a sitter for said holiday party. Fail. I have a tentative sitter but nothing solid at this point. Boo.
Do you enjoy shopping for holiday party outifts?
Notes:
- Despite the fails, overall I feel like I’ve made decent progress and I feel more satisfaction and much less stress than I normally would.
- My house is eerily clean and organized. Definitely has a calming effect.
- Just like with exercise, getting started is the hardest part. I’ve gained some momentum and hopefully I’ll keep the ball rolling in a positive direction without hitting the wall.
Will any of this become a habit? Only time will tell!
