It’s been one week since I started the base building phase of my Stress Less Holiday Training Plan.
For those who missed it, it’s not an exercise plan at all, but rather a framework designed to get me through the holiday season in one piece, with some degree of sanity, more peacefully and joyfully.
For the past week, I focused on two key areas:
1. Do things at my first opportunity aka no more procrastinating
Successes
I started holiday shopping. This is unheard of for me. It was a few things, but it felt amazing to get started. Typically this would not have happened until early-mid December.
Respond to RSVP’s immediately. Typically I wait until just a few days before the deadline, then scramble because I can’t find the invite.
Buy hostess/birthday gifts/cards for all upcoming parties. Bonus points for attaching a gift receipt and having gifts wrapped earlier than 2 minutes before heading out the door.
2. Declutter
I know, blah. I suck at this. But I’ll admit it feels SO good to just move some stuff out of here.
Since it’s my year to have Thanksgiving, getting my kitchen in shape is of top priority. Here’s what I did:
Successes
Organized 3 kitchen utensil drawers. Because who really needs 5 sets of measuring spoons?
Plus I located my gravy boat! Score!
Donated a bunch of stuff to the school coat drive
Donated 2 boxes of stuff to Goodwill
Rotated out-of-season clothes
Challenges
My only fail this week was totally unexpected: the calendar on my iPhone was accidentally wiped out–thanks to the Caveman messing with saving data to the cloud…whatever, don’t ask it’s way out of my league. All I know is I almost crapped my pants when my calendar drew a big blank. Up until fairly recently I would have had a stone tablet backup calendar. Note to self: get a new stone tablet.
So nothing earth shattering during the first week, but forward progress all the same. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum. Baby steps, right?
On tap for week 2:
Attack kitchen junk drawers
Organize recipes
Order holiday cards
Plan Thanksgiving menu
Because I’m holding my feet to the fire on this, I’ll report back on my progress next week.
