Ok so it’s day 4 of no running. So far my spirits are still good, probably because I’m occupying myself with things other than, you know the R word….or the M word. Today, because it’s supposed to be rainy, I’ll get my spin on in a group cycle class–haven’t been in eons, then I’ll pump some iron. That phrase always cracks me up.
But later……I’ll report to my brand-new gig as a
Figure Skating Coach!
I may have mentioned that I’m a washed up retired competitive figure skater. Actually many years of my youth were consumed with skating. My poor mom ran a constant shuttle to the rink. Plus I was lucky enough to have a frozen pond across the street from our house so was out there constantly. Many times I’d have to shovel the darn thing off in order to practice but who cares? It was ice and I loved it. The very reason I did not succumb to the track coach’s invitations was because skating was my sport back then.
Although this offer has been hanging out there for awhile, it wasn’t until recently that I thought “Why the heck not?”
- I love the idea of working with and mentoring kids, especially girls. So much stuff goes on in the teen and pre-teen years that can make or break a kid’s self-confidence.
- I don’t want to look back one day and regret not seizing the opportunity.
- I watch skating competitions on TV the way the Caveman watches football.
I’ll be teaching classes at various levels, Plyometrics for Skaters, and filling in with private lessons a few days a week, so very part-time, which is perfect.
