1. The cooler weather here has brought out my inner Martha. I’ve been a cooking, baking fool. A new chicken recipe, a big ole vat of chili topped off by the always-popular trifecta of oatmeal raisin, oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal almond/toffee cookies are among this week’s creations. I badly want to go apple picking but it appears it’s a tad early for that around here. But the sweet corn lately is so darn good, I rode my bike and shook the farmer down for more. I love this time of year.
2. It’s band instrument selection night at Thing 1’s school. Please help me channel no tuba, no baritone or anything supersized and challenging for moms to schlep as undoubtedly that’s what I’ll end up doing. Small is good!
Did you play a musical instrument as a kid? Me: Violin for 6 years.
3. I was sore from Sunday’s 20-miler. Really sore. Like did I almost just run a marathon? sore. To be fair I guess 20 miles is ‘almost’ a marathon. It made yesterday’s 800’s pretty much of a joke though.
Speaking of running, I’ll be doing the Fort2Base Nautical 10 miler (11.25 miles) on 9/11, which starts at Fort Sheridan and finishes at Great Lakes Naval Base. I think it’ll be a touching way to reflect on the tragedy that occurred wow 10 years ago.
