Whether you’re new to running or have been at it for awhile, Chris Cooper’s Long May You Run is a book you’ll want to pick up again and again.
An easy-to-read ‘encyclopedia of running’, Cooper covers topics from running mechanics and nutrition to bucket list races, mentoring new runners and everything in between.
It’s laced with inspirational quotes and tips from running greats like Brian Sell, Suzy Favor Hamilton, Bart Yasso and more and includes bios of running Hall of Famers like Frank Shorter, Joan Benoit-Samuelson and Bill Rodgers, to name just a few.
As I read through it I was reminded of many experiences I’ve had the privilege of enjoying as a runner but more importantly loads of exciting running adventures to look forward to.
I especially enjoyed the section on Finding Your Inner Billy Mills on page 75. It’s a testament to how far hard work, believing in yourself and not giving up can take you.
Don’t get this book if you’re looking for training plans or specific information on how to get faster, etc. This book offers a broad overview of running and all of its facets that keep it fresh, exciting and something you’ll want to be a part of for a lifetime. It would make an especially nice gift for new and experienced runners alike.
