Half Marathon Hell
After much deliberation, I went to the half marathon on Saturday. We’d gotten 6+” of rain overnight and it was still pouring and hot and humid when I picked up my packet. I ran back to the car to get my frozen fuel belt and ended up sitting there. Two claps of thunder and a few lightning bolts later, I found myself high-tailing it to the gym. Even though it wasn’t an A or even a B race, and the weather suuuucked, oh the guilt for blowing it off. Have you ever blown off a race? Did you feel guilty?
Fast forward to Sunday: I was out before the sun, temps already broiling, determined to get 13.1 penance miles in. After about 3 miles, a wall of black clouds rolled in. I welcomed the idea of rain for cooling purposes and kept on. But again my old friends thunder and lightning made an appearance before any rain so I hauled my sweaty self home where I hopped on the mill for the remainder of my half marathon.

Looking Ahead
Thing 2 turns 6 this week! Her party is this weekend. You all know I love a cake challenge and I’ve got one: she wants a marshmallow cake. Hmmmmm….creative juices are flowing.
Homecoming
I pick up Thing 1 at the airport at noon today! This was her first time away with her grandparents in Hilton Head, SC alone for 9 days. We all missed her, although I have to admit the absence of fighting was heavenly.
