With the recent news about the growing obesity epidemic in America, the topic of whole foods is a timely one. Americans are getting plenty to eat. But too often it’s plenty of calorie-dense, nutrient-deficient food.
When I was invited to try Sun Chlorella, I’ll admit I was skeptical. For the past couple of years I’ve made a concerted effort to fuel my body with whole, natural foods, especially vegetables. If I was eating so well, why would I need a supplement?
But I kept an open mind. If you recall over the winter I complained of fatigue, irritability, slow recovery, etc. To me, all signs there was room for improvement.
So what is Sun Chlorella?
It’s a strain of single-celled algae that grows in fresh water. It’s packed with naturally-occurring vitamins and antioxidants that protect the body and stimulate immune response:
Vitamin C
Pro Vitamin A
Chlorophyll
Luteine
Thiamine (B1)
Biotin
Choline
Pyroxidine (B6)
Niacin
Pantothenic Acid
Folid Acid
Vitamin B12
Lipoic Acid
1 serving = 1 serving of fresh greens.
1 serving contains more dietary fiber than many fruits and vegetables.
Works as a prebiotic that helps promote good bacteria and improve your body’s digestive health.
Ounce-for-ounce, chlorella has more protein than steak or soy.
Has the highest chlorophyll levels of any plant-based food source. This helps expel harmful toxins from the body.
As runners, I suspect many of us eat better quality food than the average bear. But we’re constantly breaking down our bodies with oxidative stress and pollution too. Sun Chlorella helps cells in the body repair and regenerate.
Sun Chlorella comes in many forms. There’s a simple tablet you take with meal. I especially enjoyed adding the convenient granules to my recovery shake. There’s also tea, face cream, even some for your pets!
