I rubbed, I wrapped, I grilled, I baked, and of course I rode and ran.
Hell what didn’t I do?
2 parties, back-to-back
25 kids
2 cakes
1 day
A party brick if you will
Friday found me frantically constructing Thing 1’s birthday cake.
It started with a brownie emergency.
When I turned them out of the pan, a chunk the size of Puerto Rico decided to not to come out.
Without batting an eye (but maybe a few cuss words) I patched it up and moved on to the ice cream round:
Cookies n Cream per the birthday girl’s request. I slathered it on top of the brownie layer. No one needed to know about the devastation below.
The third and final layer: yellow cake: I had some help with this one
The finished product
Party #1: Class party for Thing 2 at Monkey Joe’s
After ample time jumping with her friends,
Thing 2’s dream of sitting atop the illustrious inflatable throne came true.
Then back to the homestead we headed for Party #2: Thing 1’s family party
I still can’t believe a fight didn’t break out when Thing 2 blew out Thing 1’s candles. Perhaps Thing 1 is mellowing with age.
I’ll leave you with a rare family pic
I recovered from the party mania with 14 hot, humid miles Sunday morning followed by the first ice bath of the season. Miles 11-14 were sheer hell but they’re done and that’s what matters right? Endurance is a bitch.
We enjoyed a nice Father’s Day with the Caveman (he went to the driving range and watched his fill of US Open coverage) And he actually LIKED his gifts and won’t be returning anything, which is quite extraordinary. Alas my dad wasn’t feeling well so did not join us.
On tap this week:
Marathon training week 4
Keep the kids from killing each other
Prep for Thing 1’s Water Slide extravaganza (Yes another party. Clearly I’ve lost my mind)
How was your weekend?
What’s on tap this week?
