P over at Adventures of an Average Athlete invited us to participate in a Virtual Race. Runbattical or not, who am I to resist? So I did what I often do these days, I kicked back and well, drifted off for a bit.
Yes I am spooning with a dog. You wanna make something of it?
Next thing I knew I was in the elite starting area of the NYC marathon.
Wait: Are those my abs?
Is that MY flowing BLONDE hair??
Hello am I Shalane Flanagan???
Next thing I knew, we were off up the windy Verrazano Bridge. I was running so fast the skin on my face was being pressed back. So this is how it feels!
I hung back in the pack and made small talk. The other elites weren’t as friendly as I would have liked. The crowds were amazing. Although I have to admit I was looking down at my washboard abs more than I was looking ahead. For me abs like these are temporary. Crowds are forever.
Here’s a rare shot of me actually looking at the camera. Running strong!
We coasted into Central Park. I knew I’d be able to shake Mary but I wasn’t so sure about Edna. Hey it’s my first marathon afterall, what more do you want?
Thanks to some compression-sock-clad gams that wouldn’t quit, I finished exuberantly in second. I gotta say an American flag beats a heat sheet anyday!
Hey it’s my virtual race! I can dream if I want to!
Thanks P for hosting such a fun event!
