I succeeded in not signing up for Boston yesterday. I won’t lie, I had the registration screen up for a bit yesterday, but to be honest another Boston is not something I want right now. I hope everyone that wanted a spot, got one despite yesterday’s cyber chaos.
The ‘end’ of another season have given me cause to reflect on my goals. It would be so easy for me to slip into the vortex of wanting to BQ annually and make the trip to Beantown. It is truly a fantastic experience. But that was never my goal.
Goal #1
Run A marathon.
That happened in 2007.
And has recurred 5 times since.
Goal #2
Qualify for Boston.
That happened in 2008 and 2009.
Goal #3
Run the 5 Major Marathons
This is the one I haven’t done much about (well I guess I’m 2/5 of the way there) but is still rattling around in my head. My wickedly fast friend Tom shared this inspiring pic recently that reminded me of goal #3.
FWIW: I was actually living in the UK and had an entry to the London Marathon in my hand back in 1999. I did not yet consider myself a ‘real’ runner and was too scared to make the leap.
It may take herculean some effort to make it back to London or Berlin anytime soon, but it is on my radar nonetheless.
Secondary Running Goals
Despite last weekend’s half marathon PR, I still think my time is soft.
I promised myself I’d do at least one duathlon next year.
I’d love to go sub 23:00 on a 5k.
I’m very much looking forward to running/coaching related charity work with kids.
