Ryan at Pom Wonderful sent me some 100% pomegranate juice. It came at the perfect time: when I was finishing up my longest runs and making it through the fall racing season.
It’s delicious after a hot run. I also regularly add into my apres-workout protein shake. Very refreshing and a great antioxidant. All the better for recovery because, as you may know, I am all about recovery. Who likes being achy and sore anyway?
As running/fitness junkies enthusiasts, we are prone to oxidative stress which is caused when free radicals damage our bodies on the cellular level. Among others, oxidative stress occurs via metabolism, pollution, pesticides, alcohol, and poor diet.
Antioxidants counteract oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals. That’s one of the reasons it’s important to eat a diet rich in antioxidant-filled fruits and vegetables.
Pom Wonderful contains more polyphenols than any of these drinks:
Pom Wonderful has a great website and lots of other tasty products. What I like best is the recipe section. Seriously go take a look at the beautiful dishes they have featured there. Yum.
I’ve been making this simple salad dressing alot lately:
POM Viniagrette
1/2C Pom Wonderful Juice
1/2C Balsamic Vinegar
2T Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
Just whisk it altogether and voila!
You can find POM Wonderful in the refrigerated section at most grocery stores. Whole Foods had it on sale last time I was in. I even saw a honking huge bottle at Costco. Try it!
