…No it’s TAPER TIME!
I felt the cold coming on Saturday at my mom’s birthday party. She turned 70…I know it’s so ….but 70 is the new 50, right?
I got her a Coach Purse so big I swear she could crawl in and curl up for some peace. She probably would have done just that if she had this monstrosity when the six of us kids were younger. You’re only 70 once!
So yeah the sneezing and scratchy throat thing came on–wasn’t sure if it was actually a cold or my sister’s cats were getting too close. The cold was confirmed when I woke on Sunday for my last long run. So I slogged along for 21 miles telling myself I could slow from goal pace but never actually doing it.
At mile 8 I got this stabbing pain in my abdomen on the right side. I experienced this exact thing at mile 19 of the Grand Rapids Marathon. I distinctly remember poking my finger in my belly for pain relief for a couple of miles until it passed. This time it came and went twice. But I still feel it today. WTH? Hernia? Strained ab muscle? Phantom taper pain? I got er done then put my sniveling self into an ice bath before kicking back and eventually surrendering to a Nyquil-induced stupor.
Today, even though the worst of the cold symptoms have passed, I’m taking one more rest day just because. It is the taper after all.
