Wow May already! How’d that happen?
Here’s how last week shook out:
Miles this week: 19
April Miles: 92
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: 4 miles with seven 1 minute pickups. Meh. Corework
Wednesday: KettleWorx DVD corework
Thursday: SRD
Friday: 5 miles in the heat. Was supposed to be a tempo. Let’s just say the tempo was slooow. Corework
Saturday: Yoga, weights
Sunday: Ran 10 miles, weights. Felt worlds better than Friday.
Notes: I’m cast adrift on a sea of uncertainty without a definitive plan. I know I should be enjoying the downtime but I’ve got a 5k coming up this weekend so work on speed right? And I’m recovering (still) from Boston and don’t wanna push too hard. Then there’s the issue of the new 1/2 marathons I’ve added to the calendar–don’t wanna lose too much mileage base.
I was on a mission diet-wise to finally shore-up my food intake since I’m no longer in marathon training. By Friday I was dead–meaning no energy for my run. Ugh. There’s a fine balance I still need to find.

i know: how is it may already?! nice week. i wouldn't worry too much about speed for this 5k unless youre *really* gunning for a pr. i think your recovery from boston trumps that. but either way good luck and have fun ๐

I need to follow a plan more like yours with more cross training. Now that my "long" races are over til the fall (except for a relay in July — have to do 2 legs total), I'm going to cut my mileage and work on speed… guess that means getting up at the crack of dawn to do work on the high school track. Hopefully it will also be easier to fit in more biking/core work. If only my job didn't get in the way of working out. Sigh.

I am always struggling to find that balance!
Great job last week – I'm impressed with all the corss-training/strength.

I'm uncertain what I'mm training for right now too. But you are doing much better than me at doing SOMETHING!

It sounds like you're finding some great balance with your workouts! I laughed out loud at your preschool graduation countdown, being a K teacher, I get it!!! Having a kindergardener is great though!

You're on your way–it takes a while post-marathon, that's for sure.

being a distance runner makes it so hard to find a food balance!!!!! when you are logging so many miles you get used to eating so much, and then when you back off mileage it's like BOOM… still want to eat just as much ๐ i find the balance comes for me when i run few miles, which seems kind of counter intuitive. you already do a great job of mixing up your workouts, tho. hopefully you can strike a good balance for energy !

Balance? What's that? Hee hee! When you find it, pass it on!
Your workouts look great!

I used my sucky 5K last weekend solely as speedwork!! And not speedwork to get faster, just to get some body fat off me. Ha. And look at you core-queen, way to go!!! Hey, wanna add a 1/2 marathon in August in CO?? Trying to get some bloggie girls together for a weekend in the mountains. August 14th. Think about it, would be a blast to have ya come out!!! ((HUGS))

Looks like you had a good week! I know what you mean about being in a state of limbo. It's hard trying to figure out how to train when you recover from one race, yet still have training to do for another. I'm sure you'll figure it out and you'll do great in all of your races! ๐

As a newbie, I'm loving having a plan to follow! Great job on your workouts this week.

Great job with your workouts! I always feel a little adrift after a marathon – seems to take a little bit to figure out how to get back in the groove. Looks like you have lots of fun races on the schedule to keep you motivated!

I wish my workouts were as good looking as yours. lol. Actually, I need to start doing some core work. Best wishes in totally recovering from Boston, and best wishes also in your upcoming training and running in general. have fun.

Love your analogy – cast adrift on a sea! I felt the exact same way – glad to know I'm not the only one!
Hope the recovery goes well!
