Wow these weeks fly! Before long I won’t have any nontraining to talk about as I’ll have to fire up the Chicago Marathon cycle.
Total Mileage: 21
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: KettleWorx DVD, corework
Wednesday: 7 mile tempo run, corework
Thursday: SRD
Friday: USRD. This was just one of those days. Garmin was literally on and finding a satellite when the phone rang. It was my mom. One thing led to the next and to make long story short, I never got out. Ugh!
Saturday: 10 miles. And look at this pace…..wait for it…8:41!!! I went out with the intention of a typical, comfortably-paced run. But on some level I know I was making up for my missed speedwork. It’s good to know I still have that pace inside me…and it really was pretty comfy. Is it the 2 rest days or could my strength finally be coming back?
Sunday: 4 mile recovery run. I was so tired this morning not to mention sore. I managed to get out and shake out the legs and got a real surprise. The legs had plenty of spring left in them. Go figure.
No More Chocolate Update: Well basically it’s a big fail. I went to Trader Joe’s and came out with not only the chocolate almonds but some chocolate cranberries as well. I caved and gave myself one last chance at portion control before making a total break. So far so good…

my mind/body doesn't do portion control. i totally understand why they manufacture snack bag sized items. kind of a genius marketing strategy however non-cost-efficient it might be. i try to make healthy choices most of the time.
looks like you've got a great double-digit running effort!!! way to go!
Java Joggers says
I've decided that Trader Joe's is really an evil, evil, place — designed to make me want to buy things that I'd never normally buy and then consume — hello, giant jar of almond butter finished in less than a week..

great week. awesome job on the lr saturday. lots of my runs post-boston have been wicked fast too and felt easy. crazy right?!

Great week! Don't beat yourself up too much about the choco…I was all alone on Saturday late afternoon wait for the hubbs to get home and after my long run was craving sweets. So guess what I did…busted out a red velvet cake mix and made it! OMG! I'm bad…but it tasted so good! Thankfully I only had one slice and sent it to work with the hubbs today.
Oh, and not to add to your choco prob, but I just had choco cover pomigranite seeds at my moms – so tasty!!!
NY Wolve says
I crave potato chips. When I kick them and haven't had one for a while, and I see a bag, my mouth literally starts to water. The salt, the crunch, mmm. So, I understand succumbing to chocolate charms. And the USRD, lol.

Maybe the chocolate is making you speedy, cuz you're doing awesome here, girlie!! NO way I could run 10 miles on my own at that pace (that's why I do these longer races for training, something other than my crappy mind to push me along ๐ ). You're cranking along nicely, pretty soon Chicago's going to be on the calendar and you're going to be so wickedly fast – yahoo!! So I say, KEEP UP THE CHOCOLATE!! ๐ Actually, I was just reading an article from Matt Fitzgerald, the guy who I absorb every single word he says from his books and my current favorite: Weight Training. Anyway, in this interview he said he has a piece of dark chocolate and beer every day. And he's the expert :).
A good run at altitude would be awesome for you once you get home, too. Just sayin….
Steel Springs says
Awesome long run on Saturday! That speed is coming back!
Laura says
Great week of training, enjoy that chocolate!
Marlene says
Chocolate cranberries! Mmm, you are giving me ideas for my post-marathon binge. Hmmm..

Mothers seem to have an unnerving knack of ringing at the most inconvenient moments. Sometimes I pretend that I'm not home and let the machine pick up.
EZEthan says
Wow… that was a pretty rocking 10 miler… sometimes an extra day off is just what you need!
LMC says
Very nice pace for that 10 miler! Good job! I'm sorry but I cannot condone that "no more chocolate" thing. It goes against nature and all that's right in the world! I say eat chocolate, well, ok, in moderation! ๐ Have a great week!
ajh says
Are you giving up chocolate? If I knew I have forgotten why?
lindsay says
i need to give up chocolate… i just don't know if i even can. it could turn suicidal. usually i "can't help" browsing chocolate-sale cart they ALWAYS have at my grocery store (regular hersheys and stuff) but today i resisted! so, you can do it too at TJ's ๐ be strong.
Heather says
Looks like a pretty good week, especially for not training! Impressive.
Tara says
You're signed up for the Chicago Marathon? Meee tooo!
Nice 10 miler, I wish I was speedy like that.
My company had a meeting and they brought in a chocolate fountain, I would never have any hope for a "no chocolate update."

She's baaaack…Amazing pace! ๐

Hi Marcia,
Dark chocolate just happens to be one of my favorite treats! I like a little chocolate at least once a week…Mmmmm:)
Holy cow there Lady…way to rock the 10 mile!
kilax says
Wow! Great job on the 10 miler! Ha. I love how your non-training update has more miles that my training update!

okay, so w/the chocolate…although these are cookies and not chocolate.. i'm working with a nutritionist and she turned me on to Trader Joes 'Righteous Rounds' chocolate chip cookies. They're small and crunchy, but they have 'good for us' ingredients. Weirdly, I found them in the frozen section, but above where they often keep the treats. passin' it on to you;-)
