40 days left until the Boston Marathon. 40 days for me to get my act and my running mojo together.
The way I see it, I have:
the rest of this week
3 more weeks of solid training
a 2 week taper
I did 1/2 mileage last week, 3/4 mileage this week (and I cut out the walk breaks, sshhhhh).
According to Dr Miracle Worker there is to be no hill work and no speedwork in my training. Hmmm, the plot thickens.
I left my negative mental baggage at the dock and I’ve boarded the 40-day/40 night, cruise to Hopkinton.
I will build up smartly, I will do what I can.
I will use my tools ie: intervals in the pool if I can’t do speedwork outside
I will utilize the bike and continue going the group cycle class that makes me nuts.
I will arrive at that starting line on Patriot’s Day in Hopkinton trained and ready to run a marathon.
Where will you be in 40 days?
Running Boston with me?
Maybe another race?
Dropping weight?
Toning up?
Eating healthier?
Whatever your goals are, I invite you to join me for 40 days and see how far we can go together.
Are you up for the challenge? Climb aboard and make every single day count!
Day 1: Planned to run 5 or 6, ended up running 7! Achilles is behaving beautifully. Pace was slow (bronchial healing continues) but mileage over speed is my goal now.
Finished with 30 minutes on the bike and a little yoga.

i'll be there with you in 40 days!! i am sooo incredibly excited ๐
i was just thinking how crazy it is that we have just over 5 weeks. doubly crazy as i'm doing a 3 week taper so i only really have 2 weeks left of hardcoreness!!
Aimee (I Tri To Be Me) says
I'm glad to hear your achilles is behaving itself and letting you run! ๐
In 40 days I'll have run my first 1/2 marathon of the year and started my training for my Half Ironman in August! Woohoo!
Anne Marie says
okay, so 40 Days is mid April..hmm…I'm on board baby! That'll be after my big Lavaman Tri and trying to find the motivation to keep moving towards the beg of summer!
MCM Mama says
I'm on board. Of course, I started my 40 days with a rest day LOL. (Jones has strep and Shoo and I have colds, so not really feeling the running love today)
Meg says
Wow, I'll be with you in Boston in 40 days! I can't believe there are only three more weeks of training….and I can't wait until taper.
My coach is very conservative and he would agree with your doctor's training plan. I actually ran a marathon in Jan. with very low weekend long runs and no speed work…and it was fine. You will do this and it will be fun. You have a SUPER attitude!
Xavi Garcia says
I hope I will be recovered and running like hell…where? not yet decided…!
Cheers from Hong Kong!
"XTB" Xavi.
Running Through Life says

Woo hoo, the achillies is behaving!!
Ha ha, I was just reading your list of things for the next 40 days:) Just mark me down for everything other than running Boston:)
Anne says
My first race is in May, so I'm definitely on board trying to get myself ready for a great experience!
So glad to hear the achilles is not giving you any grief ๐
TMB @ RACING WITH BABES says

Count me in! I'm always up for a new challenge.
I have a half marathon in Montreal on Boston Weekend (the 18th)… won't be a PR this time after a weekend of indulging in all of Montreal's famous eats & drinks, but it will be a fun run with friends.
'Til then, I still plan to get faster, run farther and get fitter!
Megan says
Congrats. How exciting to be within touching distance of your goal.
My goals for the nxt 40days are as follows:
10days…rest/light running until helaf on March 21.
30days…address nagging hip & foot issues I've been ignoring thru race season. Work on my upper body and abs. Pay more attention to what I'm eating.

Glad you are back in the swing. You'll be ready to rock Boston! 40 days for me? I'll be in between two 10-milers. My goal is to get down to summer race weight by then and to make sure I stay healthy and uninjured!

I'm in and hope to have run another trail 50k in 40 days! Plus drop a few pounds…too much overeating while training! Ekk!
The time has flown by! Boston will be here so quickly. I am excited for you! Mileage over pace is a great idea.
Suzy says
40 days!!! Such a great time frame. You'll be ready and do great. I'll be getting to race my first 5K (I've always taken it slow and steady before). I want to see what I can do and I figure 5K is a good distance to start with.
Jill says
I'm with ya all the way girl!!! Woohoooo!! We're going to have a blast!!!
Geri says
In 40 days, I will be starting taper for the Colorado Marathon, which means I will get in 3 20 milers before then. I'm sure that I will be happily welcoming taper; then about a week into it I will be suffering from "taper madness". Crazy how we go through all that and then turn around and start training again (Chicago 10/10/10)!
LMC says
Great to hear that your achilles is behaving!
I'm in on the 40 day challenge! In 40 days, I won't be at Boston, but I'll be watching it! During that week, I have a 20 mile run in preparation for the marathon I plan to run on May 16. Here we go!
Amanda - RunToTheFinish says
Yeahhhh I love it! In 40 days I want to be sporting some more solid abs and continuing with an amazing marathon training program

Yay Marcia! I added you to my runners list on "upcoming marathons" under Chicago. 10.10.10 cannot wait!!!
GOOD LUCK AT BOSTON!!! Save me one of those cool little jackets for 2011. ๐
Evolv Rose says
In 40 days I want to be in a new house and finally have a race picked out that my husband and I can both train for. In the meantime, I'm just working on building up that base! I'm going to keep your 'challenge' in mind as I clock my miles ๐
lindsay says
i will hopefully be running (probably slowly) boston with you! my training's been shot and yesterday i came down with something funky and don't know if i will be able to run this weekend :-/
