I must admit I jumped the gun and ran this a day early. After single parenting for 2 weeks now, a busy mom’s gotta do what she has to do to squeeze her runs in. Not to mention that a race paced 10k would have made Sunday’s first 20-miler of the training cycle sheer hell.
After rousting Thing 1 up and out to the bus, I nudged Thing 2 along in her preschool prep, jimmied on my stealth CW-X tights and was out doing my first Taxi Mom rounds of the day.
As I walked Thing 2 to her classroom, I heard a little voice say: “Look! That lady has Spiderman legs!” Better than spider veins I guess. With that I made my way back to the Estrogen Express and over to the ‘race course’.
Conditions: 30 degrees, freezing rain, 20 mph winds off the lake. My inner tightwad could not bear the thought of getting my Speedy McSpeed Newtons sullied by slush so I opted for some Wave Precisions circa 2007 instead.
Racecourse: Slushy, icy rolling hills, dicey footing at times.
Miles 1&2: Raring to go, although already plenty of protest coming from the hams and caboose, which were subjected to considerable abuse yesterday, courtesy of the new kettle bells.
Mile 3: Maybe I’ve had enough.
Mile 4: No wait, I think I’ve found ‘my stride’
Mile 5: OK, now yes, definitely enough.
Mile 6: Hang on, surprised I don’t feel too bad. Could there be something left in the tank? One can dream.
Goal: Run sub 50 minutes.
Stretch Goal: Run sub 8:00 pace
Actual: 49:56, 8:01 pace.
Conditions considered, one (barely!) out of 2 ain’t all bad.
Many thanks to Casey for hosting this virtual race!

thanks for posting your thoughts on the 10K, I always think others have a blast during their runs and I am the only one who thinks she's had enough after the first few Ks… then it always gets better but it's good to know I am not alone ๐
BTW, impressive workout schedule! You must be in super shape! Great job!
