I met a new friend at the gym the other day: The Power Plate. We’d actually met over a year ago at an exercise equipment store. That meeting turned ugly when I was standing on it unprepared when Thing 1 unexpectedly turned it on high, throwing my back into convulsions. But this time was different. As I was waiting for my yoga class to begin I spied a wall chart showing the variety of exercises that could be done on it. The column titled MASSAGE quickly got my attention. Turns out the vibrations emmitted by said Power Plate can be beneficial to angry hamstrings, tight piriformis, road weary IT bands, etc. So after a brief reacquaintance with the workings of this machine, I treated myself to a Power Plate session that relaxed and refreshed. I’ll warn you it’s a tad unwieldly to actually get your hamstrings in contact with the vibrating plate–I had to snag a step from the aerobics studio and lay on that–but the results were well worth how weird I’m sure I looked to the folks at the gym. Give it a try!
As for running: I did the 6-mile tempo run I blew off yesterday. I hate to admit it was chilly and windy enough to consider wearing a jacket–for about 2 seconds–before I came to my senses. The taper-madness adrenaline turbo boosters have kicked in. I struggled to keep a lid on my pace. Apparently somewhere deep-down my semi-twisted, subconscious rationale says if I run really fast today maybe it counts for something on marathon day. If only, right?

haha, what a funky machine! I've heard of it, but have never seen one in real life. I would definitely get a crack out of trying one!
