I’m basically 3 weeks out from the Tokyo Marathon and the sh*! is getting real! We had an informational conference call this week where we combed through all the travel and race logistics. There are certainly things I’d change about my training for Tokyo if I could get a do-over. But rather than focus on negatives, I think it’s more productive (and confidence building) to reflect on the things I’m getting RIGHT.
I’m honoring the commitment I made at the beginning of training to regular appointments with Dr. Miracle, my Sports Chiropractor. Typically I only drag myself in there with injuries but this time I’m going as a preventive measure. So far it’s working wonders. After last weekend’s icecapade I could tell my hips were a little wonky from all the slipping/balancing. He fixed that right up at my visit this week. I have one final visit before race day.
I’ve been religious about pre- and post-run stretching and foam rolling. Go me.
I’m erring on the side of caution and taking plenty of my runs to the safety of the treadmill because #nobrokenlegs. While this winter started out like a sweet little pussycat, it has since turned on us something fierce. Plus there’s nothing quite like the mill to foster mental toughness.
Knock wood, I’ve stayed healthy despite all the bugs swirling around here lately by paying close attention to good nutrition, rest and recovery. I’ve leaned hard on this Vitamin D3/K2 supplement from Now Foods, since I don’t absorb D well no thanks to my hypothyroid and advancing age. Heaven knows we don’t see much of the sun in these parts and typically my vitamin D levels take a dangerous nosedive, leaving me feeling tired and sluggish. Not this year. MARCIANOW10 saves you $10 when you spend $40 at nowfoods.com.
Ever since getting a Dexascan and learning about the weakness of my medial glutes relative to maximal glute strength, I’ve been consistent with strengthening exercises and it’s paying off.
What’s going well for you? What are your biggest challenges with winter training?
I’m linking up with Lacey and Meranda for the Friday Five.

Three weeks! It’s getting real! How much time will you spend over there before/after? Your disciplined approach to pre-hab and re-hab should pay off!

Great job on the stretching and foam rolling.

I have learned to take regular appointments with a physiotherapist to prevent injures. It works!!! However after any workout I have a relaxing thermal bath. Stefano is getting very very older.
