Here we are, firmly ensconced in February already and according to the groundhog, 6 more weeks of winter. That means it’s time to sit down with Deb and Coco and catch up over a beverage. I’d brew up a pot of the Buttery Caramel coffee I got at Target the other day. Gasp! What? No Starbucks? After coming up dry (again) with Starbucks for Life, you might say I’m a tad bitter. Not really.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I bought class Valentines for probably the last time ever. While Thing 2 is definitely ready to be done with Valentine shenanigans and head to middle school, and I’m certainly ready to be done volunteering at class parties, this still made me a little wistful. End of an era.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I often think about my kids at certain (younger) ages and sometimes wish I could go back in time and have them that age again, just for one day. I’m sure I’m only remembering the sweetness, not the tantrums, sleepless nights, poop explosions, etc.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you hotels for the Berlin Marathon and Utah Valley are booked and I am one excited runner. Our group headed to Utah for the Utah Valley marathon/half/10k in June is shaping up to be a great one and the invitation stands for everyone wishing to join us. Register here and use mhs15 to save 15%. Oh and yes, Utah has a Starbucks mug.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you what a PITA it’s been trying to get the kids’ passports renewed. Our local post office has no appointments open until late March and everywhere else has very limited (while they’re in school) hours and does not take appointments so we’ll all just have to camp out in line. First world problem for sure. But still. After jumping through all these hoops, I sure hope we plan a fun vacation…
If we were having coffee I’d tell you to go order up some Spandits thermals because they’re on sale until Valentine’s Day. And look at that cute model. Remember SPANDITSLOVE saves you an additional 10% so get some and stop freezing your buns.
What would you tell me over coffee? Any Valentine’s Day Plans? Do you collect anything? Starbucks mugs perhaps?
Iโm also linking up with Meranda, Lacey and Rachel for the Friday Five.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I did not know Spandits made thermal tights! Hmmmm….
I feel you on the kids growing up thing. I get that wistful feeling every time I see a baby or a toddler in the office. Which means quite often.
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I will need to search out this buttery caramel coffee for sure! Those tights are super cute I have actually never tried spandits before. I am a lover of my skirt sports tights. Am I missing something? Thanks so much for joining us for coffee this weekend

I feel like the Groundhog should be fired…lol
I’m so excited to follow your journey to Berlin – how exciting!!!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, I get the kids growing up thing. Due to their ages (and our school system), our three kids were always in three different buildings until the oldest and middle kid were in middle school. Now we’re down to the last one in high school…and she drives, so my taxi service has shut down. Strangely, I do kind of miss all those hurried drives to the three schools every morning….
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
Why do you have to make an appointment at the post office to get your passports renewed? We’ve always just filled out the forms and went to CVS to get the picture taken.
Thanks for linking up!

FOMO. I wish I could go to Utah. Not enough vay time and I want to save some for the fall.
I collect Starbucks mugs too. But I don’t have many. I guess I need to travel more LOL.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Paul and I wounderstand like to get passports. I don’t even know how to do it. Off to Google… I hear they’re really hard to get right now because this is a year a lot of people need to renew.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’ll be runfessing tomorrow. I think most parents look back at a younger age with affection. And that’s why most parents want to be grandparents, too — all the fun with very little responsibility!
Our UT hotel is also booked. Not the flights yet. Unlike last year, this year is hectic right from the get-go. Maybe it will calm down at the end — maybe I’m just flipflopping the stress. ๐
Gina says
You always look so cute in your spandits. And thermal tights? sign me up! ๐ I’m jealous about Utah – I wish I could travel more to races.
Rachel says
Carmel coffee… yum.
I’m still doing the Val Day parties. They’re a PITA. But I can understand about being wistful. I just moved my playgroup from a closed platform to Facebook and it made me very, very sad. I started it when my son was 5 months old!
Lesley says
I second what Meranda said. I went to CVS to get my passport picture, and filled out all the paperwork, and mailed it in. I can’t think of any time I went to the post office to get renew, even after my baby passport was expired for 13 years.
Teresa says
I had no idea Spandits made thermal tights! Although, since we’ve only had one really cold spell here in the South ..probably wouldn’t be worth buying. However ….those dang cute shorties are worth taking a look at!!
I miss my boys being little too….sometimes. Then I think about the fact that I’d have to go through these dang “worrisome” teenage years again! Sigh..
Utah looks like so much fun and such a beautiful place to run …I’m just not sure I can make it but haven’t ruled it out completely yet.
Judy says
For those who were wondering – for minors you have to go in person to get initial passports and renewals. And both parents have to be there or you have to have PITA legal documentation to excuse one of them.
My kids are 9 and 11 and I too sometimes ooh and ahh at the memories of their younger years. I’m sure it will get just get worse as they get older and more moody. ๐
Utah looks amazing.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Berlin and Utah? I’m so jealous!
Jen says
My oldest is 14 and my youngest 2, the hormones and tantrums are running rampant in this house. I don’t know which is harder some days!! Throw in a 12 and 9 year old, I wonder how I am sane most of the time ๐
Yay for hotels being booked -always makes things so much more real!
Have a great weekend ๐
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hotels booked – awesome! And isn’t the whole kids passport procedures a huge pita!
My fifth grader announced he’s over the whole Valentine’s thing and I do admit it made me a little sad.
The Accidental Marathoner says
If we were having coffee…I’d say forget the Starbucks! Expensive and bitter…maybe like me??? Nah! Dunkin’ Donuts is where it’s at! And if we were having coffee, I’d say embrace your childrens’ ages every step of the way! Mine are young adults now (one is getting married this year), and it is so great having your adult children in your life! We are actually going to Puerto Vallarta with all 3 of my boys and all 3 of their ‘girls’ and I can’t wait for this fun family vacation!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Thermal tights sound amazing! Ill need to look into those. While I am ready for spring, I feel like this winter hasn’t been too bad. I think we can make it through 6 more weeks.
Cassandra says
What a PITA with the passports. Our local post office does it on a walk-in basis. You must have a really passport issuing heavy post office. We only waited 20 minutes to get my daughter’s done.
MCM Mama Runs says
Yeah, passports are a PITA. But the trip will be totally worth it! I keep mentioning Utah, hoping my husband will say “you should go”, but that’s not happening LOL.
alexandra @my urban family says
I’m so glad I could renew my passport through the mail this time around – waiting in line for that is never fun. Hoping you can get there first and not wait around a long time! Also, he seems to see his shadow every year, doesn’t he? :-/
HoHo Runs says
What? Now you’re really tempting me a Utah Starbucks mug!! I had no idea you could even make an appointment at the PO for a passport. I thought everyone sucked it up and stood in line.
Coco says
I wish I’d started collecting Starbucks mugs, but I never had room in my carry-on to get them home safely. Good luck with the passports. Getting my son’s first was a nightmare b/c we did it right when they changed the law to need one for Canada and Mexico. We didn’t expedite because we applied months early, but we had to get our Congressman to step in and get it FedEx’d to use the day before our trip.
Michelle Rogers says
Here in NC, the Greensboro Science Center has a weather-predicting cute little hedgehog named Sonic. They brought him out on the local news and he did not see his shadow, so that means an early spring. Who needs Phil, I’ll take Sonic’s forecast! ๐
Jenn says
I’m over this winter already! I’m sure you are, even more so!
We got little man’s passport last year, and it was relatively quick, but times have changed. I hope this isn’t a portent for international travel going forward ๐
I don’t really collect anything anymore. I’m not a minimalist but I feel like we have so much stuff.
No Valentine’s plans. My gift to myself is an entry to Space Coast, and that’s about it.
Mary Beth Jackson says
I hate to burst your bubble but my kids are in their 20’s and we still have poop explosions and the stories why are even better! LOL! I am SO thrilled to be meeting you in Utah! I will be ready and yes I want a damn mug- let’s do it!
Jen @ SprinklesHikes says
OMG Berlin?! Have fun!
Zenaida says
I am excited about Utah!!!
Oh, and I am stealing that cat photo. Love it! ๐
Zebra Girl says
I just wish I could freeze time with my kiddos. I think back to when they were little all of the time. Berlin and Utah….WOW!!!! Both are bucket list races. I was googling Utah races last night! We are flying home from Utah this morning and plan on bringing the kids back for a week this or next summer..,need a race for that trip!:)
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I would’ve loved those thermal tights but I see they only have XS left…I haven’t been a size 0 or 2 in an LONG time, haha!
My boyfriend just got his passport renewed and apparently they didn’t return his old one…I couldn’t believe it and I could tell he was disappointed. He’s been to so many countries!
Berlin sounds amazing and Utah seems like the race to go to! If only…
Toni says
Utah sounds amazing, I put that race on my bucket list……if we were having coffee I would tell you my calf is angry and I am annoyed at it….
Missy - Getting Fit to Find Myself says
I had a really good laugh at PITA. My husband calls me PITA and actually had for sometime until I finally asked him what it meant. I know he does it lovingly so it doesn’t bother me but seeing it in your post made me laugh. Have fun in Berlin!!! I am very envious!
