Is it that time already? Yes, most of the year is in the rearview mirror at this point. All of my races for the year are finito. So let’s take a sparkly, blingalicious walk down memory lane, shall we?
I’d hoped 2016 would be all about destination racing, and indeed that’s exactly how it turned out. Not including my triathlon, I only raced twice in the first half of the year. The running party really started in July.
My first race for the year was a local St. Patty’s Day 5k. Despite unwittingly doing a very hilly 9 miler the day before (I thought this race was on Sunday, it was on Saturday) I managed an age group award. And a pint glass. Go me.
Is it just me or does that ass seems a tad undersized?
Next up was the Cinco de Miler. Another race that had been sitting on my to-do list for too long. I got to run this one with Emily.
There was some bull riding too. Yeah, mad skillzzzz.
We spent the 4th of July in North Carolina visiting the in-laws. That means one thing. Four on the 4th in Carborro. I think this was my 4th time running it. In the past this race gave out cute socks in lieu of a shirt. This year? A keychain/bottle opener. Coughlamecough.
I began my rock odyssey in July with the RocknRoll Chicago Remix. This was my fourth time running Chi and it may have been the coolest weather I’ve had for this race.
August was all about heading across the pond for RocknRoll Dublin with the teenager. RocknRoll Dublin had been on my bucket list for literally years. Oh my we had fun. We snagged plenty of bling too.
In September I won an entry to the Mag Mile Half and got to see Suz again, which is always a treat.
In October I road-tripped to St Louis for RocknRoll St. Louis.
…and snagged the bonus Midwest Quest bling for doing RnRChi and RnRSTL.
In November I ran the Indiana Monumental Marathon.
This was a girls’ weekend race-cation and it was spectacular
In between two epic girls’ weekends, I wedged in a local 5k turkey trot where I pulled my hamstring but pulled off an AG award anway.
The grand finale to my racing year was the Panama City Beach Half Marathon…
…and a #HoLottaFun with these girls. Running friends truly are the best.
To Recap
- 1 Marathon
- 5 States (Illinois, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana, Florida)
- 2 Countries (USA and Ireland)
- 5 5k
- 5 Half Marathon
- 2 Age Group Awards
- 1 Triathlon
Favorite medal?
Running an international race was something I’ve wanted to do for a looong time. Having that dream come true this year was everything.
It’s been a crazy fun year, filled with running opportunities and adventures. I’m so grateful for all of it and look forward to what’s to come in 2017.
How was your year in race bling? Fave medal? Any disappointments?

I did the Tink 10k for the medal. I could’ve done any 10k, but the fairies on the medal make it way too cute. I think Disney has some great 10k medals, and I want to go after another one in 2018.
