Three weeks have passed now since I started my weightloss Operation drop 10 lbs (#OpDrop10). In order to hold my feet to the proverbial fire, I’m checking in here every week until the weightloss mission is accomplished. Let’s get to this past week.
Weightloss: What went well
- I’ve got a 16-day food-logging streak going over on My Fitness Pal. Who am I?
- With the exception of pizza night and a single handful of cheese popcorn, my intake has been whole, minimally processed, nutrient-dense food. Boom!
- Real foods are tasting really good, thanks to being sugar-free.
- My complexion is noticeable clearer, brighter with smoother texture. The miracle of sugar-free.
- Caveman was away on business last week and upon his return asked if I’d lost weight because “it looks like you have”. Note: I told him nothing about this weightloss thing.
- We ate out once last weekend and that was sushi for the win!
- Overall I feel great and am sleeping well.
Weightloss: What didn’t go well
- My runs have been feeling leaden and slow.
- Either my body needs to adapt to less food or I need to time my intake better. Probably both.
- Sometimes portions get out of control. Hello nuts. I know darn well some healthy foods are easy to overeat, and yet I do it. Then my calories and fat for the day gets out of whack.
- It’s sad, but I actually do better when the Caveman is out of town and I don’t wait to eat dinner late with him
- Meal prep still leaves something to be desired
- It’s happening less, but I still get overly hungry sometimes
Let’s visit the scale and see how I did:
Week 1 Week 2 Week 3
Weight: -0.3 -0.2 -1.0
Fat: -0.2 -0.1 -0.3
Muscle: +0.1 No change +0.2
BMI: -0.1 No change -0.3
Dare I say I had a breakthrough this week? I’m not sure I’d go that far but I am feeling a sense of optimism. Now if I can just keep it up.
What are you feeling optimistic about? When does the body/mind adapt to the point where making consistently smarter food choices becomes second nature?
CARLA says
AHHH Im so like you are and fare far better when MY caveman is out of town!
Mainly because here I then eat early with the child and AGAIN later with him 🙂
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
You are doing an awesome job, Marcia! One thing I need to do better with my diet is veggies. I do eat a large portion at lunch every day, but I have a feeling I should be eating more than that! I love salads, so if I have the makings for salads here I don’t mind having that as part of my dinner. The key is to have the ingredients handy, which is not always the case for me! I am into Greek salad now: lettice, tomato, black olives, big green olives, and FETA.
Sushi is one of the only things I get when we go out to eat that I consider healthy through and through!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I think it would be hard to train while reducing my food intake! I think you are doing great. Hopefully your body will adjust and your paces will pick back up again.
Katie says
Awesome job, Marcia!
I’ve recently had a job change and am carrying an extra 6# that I like to blame on the holidays. I’m not to the desperation point of logging my calories, but I’m cutting out some of the wine and increasing the healthy fats and increasing my strength training.
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Great job! You seem very optimistic! 🙂 My husband will never comment about my weight I think he is afraid LOL
Michelle says
I’m with ya in regards to eating less and running more…it’s NOT easy. I think you are doing a great job!!!
Todd says
Hey! If you can even stay even for the winter months I’d call it a success! It’s so hard with the December treats, the short days and all the cold. Keep it up!
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I do much better when I eat my own foods instead of what the family eat and when. Progress is progress and I think your doing a great job Marcia. Thanks for keeping us posted on your journey.
Maureen says
I LOVE when I get to eat dinner on my own because I can eat a huge, healthy salad and my dear husband isn’t there to ask “where’s my slab of meat?” HA HA
Thelma says
I hope this Friday is pizza night!!!!!! (gluten free, cuz I gave up white flour! ;))
Can’t wait to see you! xo
Margo says
I feel as if it takes about 90 days to create a habit that will stick. (Is that a pessimistic number?)
Darlene says
Congrats. You are on track!
It would be hard for me to give up carbs and especially sugar and run.
I gave up caffeine and that has held me back. Occasionally I do have a cup of coffee and I can feel my increased energy level.
I’m still ready to go back.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You’re doing a great job on your weight loss, you’ve got lots to be optimistic about! Meal prep/planning is the bane of my existence right now. I think you’ll get in your groove soon!
alexandra @ my urban family says
I do so much better when I’m eating on my own as well! I eat way less when my husband isn’t around – I think I just busy myself with other things and big meals isn’t really a priority.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
Yay! So glad you’re on a more positive note this week. When you start to see some changes, it’s very motivating.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
See, I told you sometimes it takes a while for that healthy eating to show up on the scale.
Maybe you’re not getting enough carbs? Not all carbs are evil!
Great job!
Jody - Fit at 58 says
I think I mentioned previously that I just eat separate from hubby. I have to do what is right for me… but I can sit with him when he eats! 🙂 Slow & steady wins this race. PLUS muscle has increased! YES! For me, it is work my whole life BUT there is a point when it clicks in that it is life & you just work with it like my post today. Give it the time it needs. 🙂 xoxox
Karen @ Fit in France says
When I cut carbs like pasta, bread etc. I replace by sweet potato and that usually does the trick for my energy levels. TONS of sweet potato recipes out there.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Training while reducing your caloric intake sounds so incredibly difficult. But kudos to you for the progress that you’re making. A friend reminded me of the 90/10 rule today, that if you’re doing the right thing 90% of the time then you’re allowed to cheat 10% of the time. It doesn’t even sound like you cheated anywhere close to 10%, so in my book you’re doing well.
Ariana says
You got this, Marcia! I struggled while trying to drop a few extra pounds last year and ended up stopping because I was knee-deep in triathlon training (dumb idea), but I’ve since found that I can handle the fewer calories as long as I pile ’em on right before and right after my activities! Best of luck to you!
Char says
It’s a really good sign that the Caveman asked that you’d lost weight without knowing you were trying. Men are notoriously bad for not noticing so if he’s noticed it must be obvious. Keep up the good work.
Kelli says
Sounds like a good week. I’ve been really bad. Like 3-5 cookies every day in the meetings at work. I feel like I have no willpower this week. Job stress and cold weather. Blah. My workouts have been pretty good (except for early this week when I was sore from shoveling snow) but I Think I would feel generally better if I could get back on the bandwagon and clean up my diet!! Keep it up, MArcia! Good streak of food logging!
HoHo Runs says
Score one for the Caveman! The changes must be obvious! I know that has to be super motivating. Is your running body feeling a loss of carbs? Maybe it just needs time to adjust. Keep up the good work and stay out of the cereal (she says while her hand is stuck inside one).
Coco says
Sounds like you are really doing well. I’ve been trying to eat better for the Runner’s Reset and need to adjust my grocery shopping and what I bring to work to have more veggies on hand to snack on.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
That’s great that you had a little breakthrough! It’s so easy to eat too much of those healthy snacks.
Thanks for linking up!
Lauren says
Wow I give you big props for reducing caloric intake while training…must be so tough but I LOVE your optimistic attitude!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
OMG,I need to get off the sugar ASAP. It’s been a real problem and my skin looks TERRIBLE! I never thought of the sugar being the culprit!
Becky @ Ok, So Here's the Plan says
I don’t think I could train and cut back on food. I’d be pretty unpleasant to be around, that’s for sure! 🙂
I’m feeling optimistic about getting some of my speed back!
elizabeth says
i am currently over indulging in chips and sweets. this usually happens before lent and each year i say i’m not going to do it- but change of jobs and the move, etc and i’m all “I deserve it”. Looking forward to 40 days of super clean eating!!! nice work so far!
