Except for Instagram, it’s been radio silence on social media here for a few days and ya know what? It felt pretty great! Before we get to the rest of the week’s goodness, here’s how the workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 6 trail miles
Wednesday: Yoga
Thursday: 5 miles
Friday: Killer strength & swim
Saturday: 8 miles
Sunday:ย Plyo intervals
It was so nice to have the kids home for another week since returning from Florida. Although by the end of the week, Thing 2 was “bored”. Time to go back to school.
It was a low-key week. We did some decluttering, donating and purging. The mudroom has been revamped. My closet is a bit more airy. The playroom got a good start. Who knew we had so many outgrown toys still lurking? There’s something about a new year that makes you wanna start fresh, right?
The Caveman was off on New Years Eve so we headed to the gym early for one last strength session of the year.
For once in a blue moon, we went out to a party on New Years Eve. It was very lovely. Our friends are very lovely and I even managed to stay awake for the ball drop. I did not overindulge, although I did have a few sips of champagne at midnight. Not a single pic. Whoops.
Shortly after that ball drop, I pulled the trigger on a race. You know you’re a runner when you’re feverishly signing up for races on your phone at the stroke of midnight. I’m officially in for Indiana Monumental Marathon this fall with Jill and Tara. Yay!
On Saturday both girls had friends over for a sleepover, plus my BIL and his 3 kiddos came over for pizza. Thing 2 and her contingent baked cupcakes. I held myself to one. If I wasn’t on a mission to drop 10 lbs I’d have had 2. Probably 3. Not sure there will be any weightloss this week, we’ll see.
Sunday we saw Burnt, the movie about a chef starring Bradely Cooper. Yes please! It was good, not great.
This week it’s back to school, back to the grind and that’s a wrap! Did you go out for New Years Eve?ย
This week’s Tuesday’s on the Run Linkup topic is Goals. I’ve got some, how ’bout you? All goals are fair game and so is any other post about running. Join us!
Becky @ Ok, So Here's the Plan says
We had a bonfire at a friend’s house for new years. The guys tried to light it with a drone and a flare. It was a whole thing…very safe.
I need to get the rest of the holiday candy out of my house so I can not mindlessly eat it all the time!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Congrats on signing up for the race! And I also did alot of decluttering and organizing this week- it felt good and was a great way to prep for starting out the new year right!
CARLA says
My NYE was so….FERRELL’y.
And Markie Mark’y.
Have you seen their new movie? It’s trashtastic and awesome ๐
Coco says
We went out for dinner – does that count if we were home before 8:00 pm? I did stay awake though!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
So exciting about that race! I’m not planning on any fall marathons so looks like we have a date for spectating at Chicago!
HoHo Runs says
I need a week like that to purge and clean. Alas, not any time soon I’m afraid. I’m ready for routine. Christmas decorations? Still out. But, this is the time I actually get to enjoy all that stuff. I want to pull the trigger on some 2016 races, but I’m waiting to see what this marathon brings and how this old body reacts. I rode in a helicopter and watched football on NYE. I made it to midnight eastern time (good enough!). Thanks for linking with us, Marcia. Happy New Year!
Debra @HappyRunningSole says
Congrats on signing up for your next marathon! I signed up for several half’s this spring. I’m waiting til payday to sign up for some more. Whoever said running is a cheap sport obviously didn’t run races. I’m thinking of doing another marathon this November-December, but I’m not 100% settled on the right one just yet.
Darlene says
I went out to dinner & then a movie. I ran a 3.5 on NYE.
No goals this year…just running and racing….staying healthy!!
Laura@ Fit Running Mama says
Yeah for a fall marathon. I Am itching for Chicago to open registration– We were in bed by 9:30 on NYE– Wild and Crazy night of watching Netflix countdowns with my 6 year old!
Heather says
I should have done more deep cleaning/purging last week. I settled on getting the Christmas decorations put away and the laundry done. Baby steps.
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
oh I’ve been signing up for races like crazy this week! I hope I can pull it all off. Unplugging is so great. I was able to do it a little in Aruba except for IG. Have a great week!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
I spent my New Years at the hospital working night shift. Fun times! I am so ready for the holidays to be over and to just get back into a routine! I haven’t worked out for almost 2 weeks because of bronchitis and I’m dying to get back to it! Exciting that you signed up for the marathon!! I’ve never been to Indiana!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I am glad you enjoyed unplugging! I never completely unplug as I do post everyday, but sometimes I schedule posts ahead of time so I don’t have to actual write something each day.
Lesley says
I have Burnt down as a Netflix movie. Any movie with food (like Julie and Julia) is a must at home so I can eat food while I watch it.
Michelle says
You’ve had a great week!! Happy NY. I totally over indulged, and am not sorry one bit. Thankfully I keep things pretty even keel most days, so I didn’t gain a single lb.! I really enjoyed Burnt, we saw it opening night. I guess I really related to the main character, I don’t know…
Unplugging is vital to my happiness. I get too sucked in to numbers, likes, views, etc. sometimes and need to remember what matters MOST is my family and friends. <3
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Usually we just go out for an early dinner NYER, but I was just too tired & we grilled a steak spur of the moment. Then made a big bowl of buttered popcorn because you really need to carb load for a 3 1/2 mile race, right?
Sounds like you had a great week.
Sharon says
Sounds like a good week! We stayed in and played games new year’s eve…yep more Monopoly for our fam. Awesome about signing up for the marathon! I still have to decide which one to do. My sister and I are planning to put our names in the lottery for Chicago! We’ll see. ๐
karen says
Yay! A race to celebrate the new year ๐
I like the sound of killer strength work out!! Beast ๐ I stayed home and didn’t even sip anything. I knew I was race NYD so I went to bed at 12:01 a.m. lol
Mary Beth Jackson says
We had a great night at a friend’s house. The food was excellent and they live close! I was in bed by 12:15 and that was fine by me! ๐ Cheers my friend! Sounds like a great day. BTW- I was born in Indianapolis, the Indy mini is on my bucket list ๐
fairytales and fitness says
I also did some de-cluttering. That feels so free-ing, doesn’t it? Hope this is a great year for you!
Char says
Purging is a great thing to do. Do cleansing! We took a couple of loads to the rubbish dump on Sunday and I felt great about getting rid of stuff that had been lying around for ever.
Emily @ Out and About says
OOOOOHHHHH on Indianapolis Monument! That’s a race that has been on my radar screen for quite some time. The timing is good, and I hear great things about the course and the organization. So excited for you!
It does feel good to unplug from social media for awhile, doesn’t it? I also enjoy seeing all the interaction notifications stacked up when I do come back. Makes me feel important, LOL. =)
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Sounds like a great week – I took on some decluttering projects too, but can never seem to get ahead of the game where the playroom is concerned ๐ Yay for another fall marathon – I’m still debating races, but do have a couple of halfs lined up.
Jody - Fit at 58 says
I honestly love when social media is quieter!!! ๐ Great end of year to you! Wishing you lots of great runs & those crazy triathlons in 20116! “)
Kelli says
I totally went to bed well before midnight. As a matter of fact my 14 year old was the only person in the entire house that stayed up to ring in the new year. We’re so lame… I took a blogging hiatus while in FL, although I was on my computer a bit trying to document the trip with GoPro videos and putting together a Shutterfly album. Who knows when we’ll have the chance to get 4 generations together again?
Kim Hatting says
My NYE was lame in that it was spent in a quiet hotel room with the family…..but this particular hotel was situated in Cali and we needed a (fairly) reasonable lights-out for the busy that day that followed (Tournament of Roses Parade, Rose Bowl game, and LOTS of speed walking on the hilly trek to/from said Rose Bowl game). Oh, I also ran a 15K race that morning, and stood in line for almost 3 hours to tour the USS Iowa Battleship…so I was legit tired LOL
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I have got to set a goal to clean out my closet!!! Yes that and organize my many workout clothes! I know I would have so many more if I could just see and find them. Uggggh!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I stayed home on New Years Eve and actually enjoyed it. I did stay up to watch the Chi-Town Rising which was pretty lame. I should have gone to sleep instead of staying up for it. ๐
Brandi @ Java & Sole says
Hurray!!!! I LOVE that you are running Monumental – I was online signing up at 12:01 too ? We let the kids stay up till midnight this year – and they made it! But almost no pictures here either ๐
