I treated you to two days of race reports but don’t worry this isn’t another one. This is about the dark side of Vegas. The race reports were all dazzling and neon and dancing Bellagio fountains. This? Not so much.
The truth is, much to my extreme dismay, some things happened in Vegas and STAYED in Vegas.
1. Remember that coveted RnRVegas pint glass I told you about? The one I fought my way over to the Brooks display for? Tackling 3 fellow runners in the process? Well someone, who shall remain nameless oh who am I kidding? THE CAVEMAN! ever so carelessly put it in the back hatch of the car. When he opened said hatch, the bag flew out and my beloved glass crashed to the ground. The pint glass and my dreams of all the kombucha I’d drink from it were shattered.
2. But wait it gets worse. Right after I crossed the finish line in Vegas, and they’re handing me water and Gatorade and chocolate milk and pretzels and fruit and more because apparently I am an octopus and can hold all of those things plus a heat sheet, I realized I’d lost the ear thingy of one of my Yurbuds. Sigh.
…and because bad things happen in threes, I saved the worst for last. We flew home very early Monday morning, requiring us to leave the hotel at 3am. I know, so wrong. We packed the night before, but I didn’t notice I was missing my Polar watch. The pretty pink one I bought for tri training just last spring. As we rushed out of the room I knew I didn’t have it. I looked for it briefly, but assumed it was in the luggage somewhere, so I didn’t tear apart the room. Sadly it was not in my bag or anywhere else when I got home. Did I not JUST advise you here on this blog not to bring valuables to a race? In my defense my Polar is a sport watch not fine jewelry but man oh man do I feel horrible about losing it. I filed a report with the hotel and so far it hasn’t turned up. I remember taking it off in the hotel room before I went to the race and putting it in my bag. That’s the last time I saw it. It HAS to be in that hotel room, IF anyone bothered to turn it in. Sigh.
Because I loathe posting so much negative stuff, I’ll leave you with a couple positives:
4. Other than some fleeting lower back stiffness from sitting on the plane, I had zero muscle soreness from the running remix weekend in Vegas. This is probably because a) Vegas is pancake flat and b) I did not light the course on fire, but still, Yay!
5. I did manage to get my beloved Starbucks mug home in one piece. Knock wood it stays that way.
Good luck to our racers! What’s fun for you this weekend? Winter storm here. Eeeek!

So many things lost?! That is crazy…I get a little crazy when I lose a sock. You are handling it well! 🙂
misszippy1 says
Oh that really stinks x 3! I’m bummed for you. Hopefully it will turn up at the hotel. I’m impressed you are still putting a good spin on it all, though!
Did I see you are getting snow this weekend?!
Elle says
DANG! Why DO bad things always happen in 3s?
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I always seem to lose at least one thing that is meaningful to me on vacation. One time, that was my absolute favorite pair of hot pink UVA workout shorts. I wore them all the time, they never made it back. And they didn’t make them any more. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Oh no!! I would have felt the same way about the pint glass! Such a bummer, but a great reason to go back next year 😉
Alexandra @ My Urban Family says
Bad things ALWAYS happen in 3s. Sorry that happened! But at least you have that mug! I know people who are trying to collect ones like that from every state.
Karen says
Awww, boooo! I hate losing stuff I love. 3 a.m. leaving- did you even sleep?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh no! I swear it’s not a trip if you don’t forget something, but your watch?
I once bought one of those very pretty, very expensive, stained glass heart necklaces at the Venetian. I swear I spent hours picking out just the right one.
And yup, I left it at the hotel & it was never again seen by me.
Darlene says
Oh no. That is so sad.I hope your watch turns up.
At least you have your mug.
I only drink out of mine. I swear things taste better in them.
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I hate you lost your watch, it may not be fine jewelry but worth a lot to us huh! I have a half this weekend but ya know what I’m looking forward to the most? After the race there is a church hosting Hunters Lunch. Ya know here in MS it’s opening day and a lot of hunters will be out bagging their big bucks. They got to eat right? This church has a lunch fit for a King, no several Kings!!! Let me make your mouth water a bit: Ham, Turkey, Fried Chicken, all the homemade dishes, and homemade pies, cakes, bars and cookies all made by church members! The best part it benefits so many organizations that help the needy! I will be RUNGRY after my race and can’t wait to have the first Thanksgiving meal of the week! 🙂 Ok if that don’t have ya drooling I don’t know what will. 🙂
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
oh no on the watch! Maybe it will show up stuck in a pocket of something. I bet you can get another pint glass 🙂 Have a great weekend 🙂
fairytales and fitness says
My biggest fear of traveling is leaving one of my electronics behind ( watch, ipod, phone charger, etc). I did indeed lose a pair of my favorite jeans in a hotel in Miami. I was very sad about that for months!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Oh no!! I’m so sorry about your pint glass and watch! I’d be devastated!
thesimplepeach says
All the lost things…oh no! Well cheers to your coffee mug making it back?!
Emily @ Out and About says
That sucks that so many things got lost during the trip – especially the watch and the ear bud. Adam has lost about five cell phone chargers, three pairs of sunglasses, countless hats and gloves, and so many other things through all of his various travels. It happens all the time!
Jody - Fit at 58 says
CRAP!!!!! I better go back & read the good stuff!!! So sorry Marcia!!!!
Sharon says
Ah so sorry to hear about the pint glass and watch! I would be so upset if I lost my watch. I hope it turns up.
Chrissy @ Snacking in Sneakers says
Oh goodness – between the glass, the earbud, and the polar watch, I hope you get some good karma coming around your way this week and find/win/get a blog opp for something super cool. That stinks about all those things!
Lesley says
I lost a Yurbud earpiece right before my last race. I have no idea where and I think it was in the port-a-potty. Those weren’t even loose so why did it fall off right before? I had to run the 5k with only one Yurbud in because the earpiece isn’t comfortable without the cover. When I went to order that size from their website, they were out!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh no not the Polar! That’s a bummer. I think you’ll have to make a return trip for another pint glass next year – good excuse to go back 🙂
Pascal says
You have some Bad luck marcia 🙁
Hope a companie will read this and give you a New one.
But for the next time ,take a hydrationbackpack with packingspace and run with it 😉
Kim Hatting says
oh, what a bummer about the mishaps ;-( We collect shot glasses (it all started way back, on our honeymoon, 25 years ago)…but I have not bought shot glasses from either of the RnR events I have done (St. Louis 2013 or Chicago 2014)….and I have no explanation as to why. SO, I can somewhat feel your pain. Thanks for the heads-up about next Friday….I need to make it a habit to do more link-ups 😉
HoHo Runs says
Oh, no! The pint glass. And the Polar watch. My Yurbud covers come off a lot. Why is that? I really, really like the Starbucks mug!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Don’t you wish they sold replacement earbud covers for the Yurbuds? I bought a new pair of Yurbuds and let me tell you, the quality isn’t the same.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
Oh no! I am always super paranoid about leaving things at hotels. I hope your watch turns up!
Carmy says
NO. THAT POOR GLASS. I would have been so heart broken. I’m so sorry!
Lauren says
So sorry you lost so much. I lost 3 yurbuds earbuds at various races. It’s bad! I love those Starbucks mugs- I got one in Disney in the spring when I went there!
Celia at Chicago Jogger says
Sorry about your watch!! Sounds like something to add to you holiday gift list.
Kate @KateMovingForward says
Oh that sucks so much about your watch!!! Seriously…I have tears for you. Ugh! It can only go up from here, right?
Kelli says
Super bummer about the pint glass and the Polar watch. I will hold out hope for you. I left my wedding ring in a hotel room one groggy morning when I checked out and then went to swim early. Thank god for honest people – I was able to return to the hotel and retrieve it.
Michelle says
Awh man, that sucks x3!!! Especially the watch! Those things aren’t cheap!!
Becki S says
BOOO on the pink polar being missing. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it turns up somewhere for you! Glad that your mug made it back in one piece and that you aren’t sore!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I am so sorry about your watch. That really sucks.:(
Char says
Not the watch! Poo, poo and poo. Hopefully that’s all the bad luck over and done with in one hit.
Natalie says
Such a bummer about the watch!!! I Am so sorry that happened!! I wish I would have gotten one of those Starbucks Vegas mugs!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Toni @runninglovingliving says
Sorry about your vegas losses, I always check the hotel from top to bottom now due to all the lost items we hd over the years.
Cynthia says
How upsetting! I thought I lost an iPod shuffle in a hotel room a few years ago and it did turn up. I found it buried at the bottom of one of our bags. I really hope your Polar turns up.
I’m going to have to look into a link-up. I haven’t quite figured out how they work yet.
jill conyers says
That’s a different twist on the Vegas RNR recaps. X3? Probably not a good time to gamble.
Teri says
I am a believer in those bad 3’s, too. For some reason I keep losing my yurbud buds and I wish I could just buy a replacement for them. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you get your watch back, too! Love your new mug 🙂 I got sloppy wet in the snow yesterday, too. Might take the kids sledding for a short freezing bit later today!
Mary Beth Jackson says
UGG, bad things do happen in threes 🙁 does this give you a reason to go back next year and get that glass? The watch is a hug bummer, I hate leaving things behind. Someone is enjoying it for sure! Your winter sorm pictures are unbelievable!
Alison @racingtales says
Why is it always the favorite items that get broken/lost and the stuff you couldn’t care less about stays intact?!! Case in point: I had a really nice Boston Marathon coffee mug which of course I left at a swim meet and a cool water bottle from Canada that I left at the pool. Neither item showed up. I understand the coffee mug but who steals a water bottle?!! And the first time I ran Boston, they put me near the elevator and, after unpacking, I realized it was super noisy with the pinging of the elevator and the talking of the people who would congregate around it, so I asked to move. Took all my stuff to the new room…except a nice pair of jeans and top that I planned to wear to the after party. We were so pooped from the race, we never went to the after party, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized I didn’t have the jeans and top. They never showed up either, although the hotel did give me $75! Sorry about your losses, hopefully the fun time sorta compensated!
Mary @ Fit and Fed says
It’s so hard to keep all your stuff about you (and intact) when you are traveling. I hate to bring jewelry with me when I travel for that reason, though I sometime do if I’m going to a wedding or something (with the inevitably resulting tense moments keeping track of it).
Ariana says
Sorry to hear you lost your watch! I used to work in a hotel and our housekeeping department was super diligent about returning things, so hopefully the hotel you stayed at is the same. Call them to follow-up in a week or two to double check in case anyone forgot to call you!
Caroline S. says
SO sorry about your POLAR WATCH! I really hope it turns up! Hotel staying can always be chaos! I’m always super paranoid of leaving something. Good job on your run though. Glad you had fun got that Starbucks mug and didn’t have horrible soreness to deal with on your days back!

Shannon @GirlsGotSole says
Ugh, that stinks! Especially losing your watch! I really do hope it turns up somehow. I know I’d be pretty upset if I lost my running watch.
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
This line actually made me laugh, “because apparently I am an octopus…” haha so true. always how I feel after races.
That sucks about your watch!! The worst. Hopefully it turns up or someone on the cleaning staff finds it in the room or something =/
