I’m in that post-marathon place. Many get the blues at this point, but I feel more a sense of relief. Now I can run what I want as fast or slow as I want…or do something else entirely (like laundry). I have a few races left this year but I’m not letting those pressure me. I’m simply going to ride the endurance I have left from the marathon and run those for fun.
With that, here’s what’s “current” for me:
Books: I’m reading a couple: Runner’s World Meals on the Run and The Runner’s Brain: How to think smarter to run better. Stay tuned for reviews.
TV: None except Cubs’ games since hell has frozen over and they’re in the playoffs. I also made it to season 5 of Breaking Bad. Go me.
Running Path: I’m kind of all over the place, but trails are my favorite right now. Fall colors and all.
Non-Running Workout: Um, sitting in the lazy hole? No seriously, it’s a split between riding my bike and strength training. I’m back to doing both now that the fall marathon is done.
Drink: I’m still really digging the Zarbee’s vitamin blends.
Running Gear: Spibelt! I’ve been running for what is it? 17 years now? I’ve always wanted but never had a Spibelt before. I’m probably the last runner on the planet without one. Until my dear friend Jody sent me one. It has a purple zipper and everything. I freaking love this thing. I super love that it’s waterproof. Super comfy too. If you don’t have one, trust me you want one.
Indulgence: Popcorn. Butter, cheese, caramel, all of it.
Healthy Snacks: Apples! Smoothie bowls. I’ve used kefir in my recovery smoothies for eons but Lifeway has new flavored kefirs sweetened with Stevia. A tasty way to get some probiotic action.
Excitement: Excited to be running the Run10Feed10 10k in Chicago tomorrow!
Garden Item: You’ve already heard me whine about what a terrible year it was for the garden. I planted a ton of pumpkins and winter squash to end up with one butternut squash the size of a walnut. I kid you not. But the community garden’s already been plowed over so onward. Here’s to next year.
Kindness Project Update: Catch up here if you missed it. Yesterday was my first day focusing on and noticing kindness around me, instead of negativity and rudeness. First thing out on my run, a landscaper turned off his lawn mower and waited for me to pass before turning it back on. Sweet! Then, on the .25 of a mile where I run in the weeds aside a busy-ish road shoulder, one driver slowed down a ton to pass me and another veered way over to give me space. Much appreciated. It’s the little things, right? For my part, I took a bunch of clothes to a women’s shelter and I am especially nice to the police directing traffic around the high school.

What a great idea kindness awareness! I think when we focus on the positive the negative doesn’t seem such a big deal! Love this! Something current for me, as in real current: I just ordered tickets to go see my very first NFL game! Yup I’ve never been! I just realized last night that my husband and I would be in New Orleans on Nov. 1 when they are playing the NY Giants! How cool is that? I’m beyond excited! Let me sum up that weekend in 3 words, RV’ing, Running & Football. Does it get any better??

I am loving my empty house 🙂 ahhhhh! and the garden- forget about it! Thank goodness for my pineapples and avocado otherwise I got a tomato the size of your squash- moving on! I thought about you and the kindness project this morning until that damn car pulled out in front of me at the elementary school, lunchbox and gym bag went flying, hit the back of the seat and landed in the floor. It has gone to hell from there. I am doing a 3 mile breast cancer walk tomorrow so I am calling a mulligan and starting over! I’ll keep you posted! 🙂

Enjoy running without pressure! I don’t have a SpiBelt so you are not the last one. Fellow blogger and friend Karen sent me her Polar watch to wear in the pool. It doesn’t get much nicer than that.

That is a fantastic picture – simply lovely! I’ve noticed the people at my Starbucks being nicer and have been trying to keep it going.

I’m surprised you’ve never had a SpiBelt before! I love mine. I really do.
Thanks to you, I’m definitely more aware of little acts of kindness around me…

I love the kindness project. Truly. Yesterday I almost nearly blocked an intersection while waiting for a red light. I noticed what I had done, so backed up so someone could get through. I felt good about my choice. I had a spibelt for a while, but my flub didn’t need anymore highlighting so I ditched it, LOL!

I have never tried kefir before. That looks good. I may have to keep an eye out at my local grocery store to see what they have.

I’m loving the trails now too! The colors of the leaves are so beautiful! I have a Spibelt but haven’t worn it since I found out about the flipbelt. However, I do like the idea of the Spibelt being waterproof now. So funny I have been indulging in popcorn lately too. I can’t stop eating G.H Cretors Chicago mix! 🙂

I’ve got to say, I’m not a big fan of the Spibelt. I hate things bouncing around my waist. How do you deal with that? And I can totally relate, as soon as MCM is over I may start checking things off on my to-do list..finally!
