Has October flown by or what? Cannot believe we’ve been making small changes for a whole month already! So fill me in–how’s it going? What have you changed so far? Are you able to keep all of the changes going? If you’re just joining us, welcome! It’s never too late to start!
I came across this quote the other day and it immediately struck a chord. How many times do we automatically dismiss someone’s accomplishment as a ‘gift’? My daughter (Thing 1) has struggled with the reverse scratch spin you see above. For. Ages. She’s gone through hours upon hours upon days upon months of hard work, sweat, anguish and doubt that she’d EVER master that sucker. Forgive me for parading Thing 1 out here as an example of how sometimes on the surface someone seems ‘gifted’ when, in fact, there is so much more going on behind the scenes, under the surface. I suppose the real ‘gift’ is the tenacity to work hard enough to make whatever it is you do appear effortless. It all starts with One Small Change. And the wherewithal to stick with it.
Anyway, back to business. Keep your changes small and manageable. Don’t feel like you need to add a new one every week, especially if you haven’t yet mastered your previous changes. Go at your own pace.
Here’s how the month shook out for me:
Week 1: Keep kitchen counters clutter free
Week 2: Drink at least 64 oz. water daily
Week 3: Do a daily 2-minute plank sequence
Week 4: Start every day by drinking warm lemon water to alkalize the body
Except for one day when I totally forgot, this one has been going well. Most days I drink it instead of coffee, but sometimes (like today) the coffee comes after.
Now that month 1 is complete, who’s up for month 2? I will compile all of October’s link ups and announce a random winner next week! Blog about this week’s One Small Change and be sure to link up below to be eligible for prizes. The more you link, the better your chances of winning!

Lemon water! Sounds good. I will have to check the link to read about benefits. I would have assumed it would make the body more acidic because of the citric acid.
Nice to see your daughter’s efforts paying off, Marcia!

Way to go Thing 1!!! My struggle was with spread eagles- I would spend 3 or 4 hours working on them for a few years. Oy.

I love the quote. It’s amazing how much more talented we seem when we work hard at something.

I love the thoughts of no pressure & just pick small things that work for the person & don’t overwhelm or stress them! ๐
SO TRUE on your daughter & how many times gifted is just hard work realized! ๐

I have nothing this week – so many things I need to work on and yet nothing is popping into my head.

I agree with the whole gift thing. I admit that sometimes I tell Colton how gifted he is musically but in reality he practices so much that by the time he was 15 he had developed trigger finger from hours upon hours of practice for five years. Doesn’t sound like so much of a gift, huh? Your daughter understands.
I’ve heard about the benefits of lemon water but just haven’t done it. I really dislike the taste of lemon in my water.

Your daughter amazes me. All of that hard work, sweat and tears and she keeps going. As a mother myself, I can feel the joy and pride you must feel for her!

I think your daughter must take after you in her efforts and perseverance!
I changed from lemon water to lime water some time ago… but either is such a good way to start the day. Love it.
I linked to my #onesmallchange post this week.
