Week One is done! What was your first one small change? How did you do? Can’t wait to read about it.
Me? I started with something that’s small but oh so irritating and a perennial problem for me. Kitchen counters cluttered with mail, receipts, coupons, kids’ schoolwork, toys, you name it. It just had to stop. So I vowed to clear the counters and keep them that way.
- I enlisted the Caveman and kids to keep their stuff to themselves.
- I no longer dumped my running watch/visor/sunglasses etc. there
- I filed school papers in folder I’d already created but wasn’t using
So far I won’t say we’ve reached perfection, but the counters are worlds better! Here’s a video that my friend Erica shared last week. It’s kind of long, but oh my it hit home. Trust me, it’s 17 minutes well spent.
The breakthrough for me in this video was rather than managing change to an end result, choose a habit that is a stepping stone along the way to an end result and schedule it in next to a habit you’re already doing.
So for my kitchen counters, I cleared them as soon as I took Thing 2 to the bus every morning, after I got her off the bus in the afternoon and again after dinner.
Because I did it 3x/day, they were small manageable sweeps, instead of overwhelming ones.

Oh man, you don’t want to see our coffee table and the top of Bernie’s crate. It’s bad, haha.

I need to do that with my kitchen island. It’s a mess and it’s definitely a spot where we all dump our stuff.

Love the message of that video – thanks for sharing! I’m going after the clutter zone that is my coffee table – if I can keep it clear for even a day or two it will be a miracle ๐

Confession time – I didn’t make any changes. The week before my marathon isn’t when I want to be changing things up. I’ll save that till when my head’s in a less-frazzled state.

My one small change this past week was not to snack after 8 pm. Thought it would put an end to the grazing I occasionally like to do – and it worked! This week my small change is very simple. I am going to measure out 64 ounces of water every morning and make sure I get it down before I go to bed. Really hard for me some days! Thanks for the link up! Fun to read what every one else is doing too.

I forgot to say my small change (in the post) is to try to meditate! Last week’s push ups and sits ups still going strong!

Oh that’s a good change:) I need to do that but with my kitchen table. It’s a mess! My “one small change” is to drink an extra glass of water during the day. I’ve done pretty well so far. Still need to blog about it:)

I’ve eaten during the day every day this week – some days it is still later than it should be – gotta keep working on it!!

I really love this concept. Lord knows I could use the small step approach as we unpack and move into our new place. One thing at a time, right?

I LOVE clear countertops! They accumulate SO MUCH STUFF, I have to put everything away – What’s funny is I have all these documents, etc laying on my counter and I put them away and I never look at them again… Why I cannot just throw them out? I DON’T KNOW! ha ha.

One small change I made this week was to stop eating snack mix at work. I’ve found that I don’t need it as much as I used to and I’m getting used to my new diet. The snack mix was tiding me over until meals but if I don’t need it, I shouldn’t have it. It was healthy stuff with nuts and canberries etc, but without it I’m just fine. Love your inspiration!

I am doing terrible. I wanted to limit myself to 1 treat a day, and it’s not working so well. Blech. I did buy popcorn at the store, which I like at night instead of sweets. To a better week!

I think kitchen counters are a huge area for many of us. After all the kitchen is the gathering place for most families. I’m trying to get mine totally clear for the house showings and it’s hard. I pray no one opens a cabinet! LOL
